Mission Statement
The mission of
Music Instruction Studio (MIS) is to provide high
quality music education through one-on-one & group instruction,
which is challenging, rewarding and fun.
Instruction
Philosophy
Our instructors support
the MIS mission through a shared philosophy that
instruction is not about the instructors or their
accomplishments, but rather, it is about the
student.
To keep the focus on the
student, we specialize in instruction only, whereas
many facilities that offer music lessons also
emphasize instrument sales and rentals.
We take a holistic
approach to teaching, where instructor-student
compatibility is facilitated through student goals
and style of music. We use a curriculum-based
instruction approach, with short-term and long-term
goals designated to meet the student’s primary music
objectives. Furthermore, we encourage students to be
pro-active in their learning and to engage learned
material through practice and student performances.
More than Just Music
Lessons
Experienced Instructors:
MIS
instructors are accomplished musicians and have a
strong passion for and extensive experience in
teaching. Please refer to the Instructor Bios
section on our website for specific information
about our individual instructors.
For
the Young & Not-so-Young as well as the Skilled and
Not-so-Skilled: In other words, we
cater to all ages (from age 6 up) and all skill
levels. Our primary objective is to make music
education challenging, fun and rewarding, regardless
of age or skill level.
One-On-One
v. Group Lessons:
Most
students prefer and benefit most from individual
lessons, however, we also offer group lessons.
Student Performances: We offer piano
recitals, and other student performance events
throughout the year. These events are voluntary,
foster student confidence and also provide
opportunities for students to demonstrate their
progress to family and friends.
Music Library:
We have an extensive music library and unique
equipment to supplement MIS student learning.
Seminars and
Workshops: Throughout the year, we
offer many free seminars and workshops for MIS
students.
Post-Secondary Music
Preparation: Students desiring to
pursue a degree in music can prepare at MIS through
intense study of theory, sight-reading, ear
training and more.
